Many investors assume that investing in gold stock is the same as investing in gold metal. In reality, the two are quite different. Gold stock is speculation where owners anticipate increased returns, similarly to equity investments. Those who own gold in coins or bullions are looking for stability and hedging against a negative economic event. The process of purchasing gold in an IRA is very specific and extremely easy. Fill out the proper forms, identify your gold dealer, and decide what percent of your portfolio you wish to diversify. That's it. It's as easy as transferring from one stock to another within your existing IRA.
